| Our Mission
Statement: |
|
Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays promotes the
health and well-being of gay, lesbian and bisexual persons, their
families, and friends, through: support, to cope with an adverse society; education, to enlighten an
ill-informed public; and advocacy, to end discrimination and to
secure equal civil rights. PFLAG provides opportunity for
dialogue about sexual orientation and acts to create a society
that is healthy and respectful of human diversity.

| We Celebrate Family: |
We Advocate Equal Rights: |
|

We celebrate real family values.
Families come in all shapes and sizes, but all families share one
thing - unconditional acceptance and support for their loved
ones. Hate is not a family
value.
|
We advocate equal rights-not special rights-for your gay,
lesbian, bisexual and transgendered loved ones. The most
productive way to effect change is through public advocacy.
Members work to support local, state and national legislation
designed to assure the civil rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual,
and transgendered persons.
|
| "Our kids are great just the
way they are!" |
"Equal rights for all our
kids!" |
| We Educate Society: |
We Offer Support: |
|
We educate society about misconceptions and
introduce the reality of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and
transgendered people-they have families and friends that love and
support them in every way.
Central Dakota PFLAG has a wide variety of pamphlets and other
materials available for free distribution, as well as many books
and tapes which may be checked out. We provide educational
information based on educational research, religious teachings,
and personal experiences. We have speakers who will speak to
individuals, communities, religious institutions, schools,
businesses, and government at all levels.
|
We meet on the fourth Monday of every month, except May and
December, at 7:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 2nd
Street and Thayer Avenue. Please use the entrance across from the
Drumstick Cafe.
Our Meetings begin with two rap sessions-one for family
members and friends and one for members of the community.
This is a time which allows us to share our thoughts and
feelings, or just listen to others, in a safe and confidential
atmosphere. A brief business meeting is followed by a
program with a speaker or video of general interest to the
membership.
We welcome gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people as
well as their families and friends.
|
|
"Knowledge dispels fear."
|
"Hatred thrives where love is silent."
|
| PFLAG Vision: |
|
We, the parents, families and friends of lesbian, gay, bisexual
and transgendered persons, celebrate diversity and envision a
society that embraces everyone, including those of diverse sexual
orientations and gender identities. Only with respect, dignity
and equality for all will we reach our full potential as human
beings, individually and collectively. PFLAG welcomes the
participation and support of all who share in, and hope to
realize, this vision.
