Does God Care?

Students, employees, servicemen, church members.
Lives lost.

"Well-liked." "Had no enemies." "A smile for everyone."
Grieving friends recall.

Tortured.  Mutilated.  Burned.
Bludgeoned.  Dismembered.  Crushed.
Murders committed in the most heinous ways.

Matthew Shepard, Billy Jack Gaither, Barry Winchell, Arthur Warren...
Many, many - too many - more.

From every pulpit, pastors need to declare, "This has to stop!"
People with same-sex orientations are human beings!
God values them as much as anyone else.

Does God care whether they are born with their orientations or develop it after?
Does God care whether or not they appear to follow his design?
Does God care that they sense the world differently than most?

It's not a question of what we think about same-sex oriented people.
It's not a question of what churches should or shouldn't do.
It is a question of how human beings treat other human beings.

God does care.  They are people he created.
God does care that they are being killed, maimed, hated and despised.
God does care that, in his name, they are made outcasts.
When human beings are physically, mentally or emotionally brutalized, God cares.

God abhors evil.  He knows thoughts secreted behind hearts.
"If they don't do things against nature, nothing would happen to them."
"You can't blame anyone for being terrified of them."
"It wouldn't happen if they didn't deserve it. "
"They can't be allowed to do what they do."
"They're not meant to be."
"Good riddance."

Are we caring about what God cares about?
Violence, bigotry, injustice against human beings.
God's people have to stand and say, "This has to stop!"

Does God Care?
